Halal Dim Sum in KL (Restaurant Siang, Sogo KL)

olla everyone!
It have been awhile since I write a food related post, and why not do it today? hahaha.. FYI I love eating dim sum, but the challenging part is very hard to find a halal dim sum place that offer yummy dim sum at reasonable price with a good service and at a clean outlet.
My hubby, my bro and me always have this 4 criteria when ever we rate food place.

1) Sedap or not?
2) Affordable or not?
3) Clean or dirty outlet?
4) Good service or not?

I will only share about the makan place that we tried if it have more than 3 yes, so that my friends and family able to enjoy it as well next time. So what about this place? For me, my hubby and my bro… this place deserved 4 yes!

First of all, for sedap or not part… I must say it is very yummy! Compared to other dim sum place I’ve the siew mai is so gemuk and the pau is so lembut and my husband love the pau at this place. If you decide to go please dont forget to order their egg tart! superb, crunchy from the outside and so lembut at the center.

You wont believe it the total cost for 3 person makan only RM80 ++ and with tax and all that RM96++ Okay pleae put into consideration that we ordered medium size of salted egg fried rice that cost RM30. If not our bill will be around RM50++ only. Super affordable if you ask me. Normally stylo place that have service will charge around rm10-12 per dishes for dim sum but this place charge only rm6-8 per serving.

Clean part? Okay the thing is this tempat cantik and stylo and obviously cleaner than those tepi jalan place. Dont get me wrong, I love hawkers food. Lets just say that this place offer better cleanliness level and more stylo.

As for the final criteria, service.. dont you just hate it if you are at makan place where you have to waves you hand few times to call for waiter? You wont face that here. The waiter and waitress were dressed in proper attire with shirt and vest and their manager/supervisors in blazer. I believe they were well trained. My husband was touched by the hospitality. They keep on refilling our Chinese tea and we dont even have to hover our hand to asked for it. We were well taken care off.

The only con, is that finding parking in Sogo can be really challenging. You need to be early as this place can be fully book. Tips, go on Sunday morning where lesser people around. Their shop open at 11am.

Lets check out what we ordered on that day.

My table setting. We opt for Chinese tea as our drink. So that the flavour or the food does not get mixed up with sugary drinks and all that. Well, thats our logic hahaha...
Refillable Chinese tea RM2.00 per person, Wet Tissue RM0.80 per sheet and yes they also provide tit bits (fermented papaya)for rm5 per plate.

Mini Egg Tart RM 4.50 per serving with 3 pcs on top. Definite must try if you ask me. So yummy! I was thinking to take away for munching session at home.

Steamed Barbeque Chicken Cheong Fun RM 6.00 comes with sambal dipping.

My hubby is a rice eater. He need carbo or he will feel hungry so we ordered medium size salted egg seafood fried rice cost us RM30. I must say it is worthy since they amount of seafood and the freshness of the prawns. Not a must try but no harm trying this dish if you are there.

2014-04-20 11.22.31
Stir Fried Carrot Cake with Bean Sprout RM 7.00. Okay not bad not the best that I have tested but not the worse as well. I can say moderate.

2014-04-20 11.25.44
Chicken Shiu Mai RM7 ( the one in yellow back there 3 pcs per serving) then Steqamed Szechean Siew Mai RM 7 ( the green one back there 3 pcs per serving) then my husband’s ultimate favourite the Barbeque Chicken Bao RM 6.00 for 3 pcs. you need to eat it when it is hot and still steaming… so yummy!

2014-04-20 11.28.59
Vietnamese Roulades RM8 per serving. I would recommend for you to order this one. Something different. Juicy and soft from the outside with a crunchy filling inside.

2014-04-20 11.29.16
Szechuan Style Dumpling RM 6 per serving.

Anyway now they having promo, that if you come on weekend or public holiday you will get 20% off dim sum dishes. I dont know until when this promo will last. So you might need to check with them before going if you would like to enjoy the discount.  anyway as I said this place is a yummy place for a halal dim sum, affordable, clean and they provide good service. So next time if you are craving for dim sum.. y not give it a try?

  1. I've been craving for dim sum since i was pregnant, sampai sekarang x sempat nak makan lagi. Anyway i've heard of good reviews of this place before, but with your review it looks more convincing. Must tarik my husband, MIL and family to go and eat this place one day. The only downside is the parking, other than that everything is ok. Thanks for the review Illy... ^_^

    Maaf bertanya..
Saya tertanya2 siang restaurant sogo ni mmg dh dpt cert HALAL from JAKIM?

Sbb saya mencarik mana2 artikel yg ada tunjuk rest ni ada halal cert.
Mostly org yg share akan kata tempat ni halal.Tapi hanya HALAL pada penulisan.

and artikel yg ada share pon just tulis PORK FREE.

Mmg teringin sgt nk mencuba disini. Since saya pon penggemar dimsum.

kalau yakin, teruskan.. kalau dah ragu baik tak payah :) macam chilis ke tgif ke.. itu pun takde sijil halal sebab dorang jual arak... most hotel yang buat buffet buka puasa pun takde sigil halal jakim sebab dorang ada serve arak dalam menu T.T
