Part 5 – Giving Birth Experience

Today, I am on the fourth day of my confinement. Decided to write and share about my giving birth experience as soon as possible since everything is still fresh in my mind. Our baby Sofea Eliza binti Johan Ariff is born at 7.07pm on the 14.05.2014. To be completely honest, it is nothing like I ever imagine at all.

I was given earlier MC by doctor since I had the PUPP so I spend my time resting and waiting anxiously for the “sign” of giving birth. So, what happen was on the 13th May 2014 (happen to be Wesak Day and my hubby went for some finance conference at Royal Chulan luckily bro is at home.. thank goodnes!) Anyway, the first sign shows at around 6pm where I noticed a clear jelly type of mucus super thick came out of my private part. Like quite alot. My hubby took the picture of the stuff but I decided not to post it up since it is gross ( if you are currently pregnant and curious to know how does it look like, do email or pm me at my fan page.. I am willing to share just incase it would help you out).

I didnt feel any pain what so ever when the mucus came out. Doc do informed us to come to hospital if there is sign. I didnt know it was a sign ( so blur gosh!) and we end up calling my mum in laws and googling what is that. My hubby even contacted his friends to find out what is that. We were told it was a mucus plug.

From readings, I found out that this plug is formed in the cervical canal and provides protection against bacteria entering the uterus. A pregnant woman usually looses this plug at "term" (anytime between 37-42 weeks) or during labour. When you loose your mucous plug it means the the cervix is ripening (ie softening, dilating, thinning) to some degree to allow it to pass. Which means it is near!! you going to see your baby anytime soon.

So ya after that, my hubby help feed me some food ( I might need lots of energy of giving birth later) and give me a bath shampoo my hair (since during confinement I wont allowed to wash my hair.. ya…. tell me about it). Once done sudah comel, it is around 8pm when I reach the hospital. At that moment I only felt a mild contraction. I can still walk talk and make jokes.

As I reached, we were lead to labour room. Only husband is allowed to accompany. As I go in, I was given the patient’s uniform to change and then lay on the bed. I was in pain so I dont really remember all the details. What I do remember was device were put on my tummy to check baby heart beat, my heart beat as well as the contraction.

At first contraction painful but bearable that is around 9pm –10pm. Then I was given with a medicine (liquid form) into my buttocks. This medicine were given to ensure that I had bowel movement and to remove all the food in my intestine. The main reason of this is so that it wont “interfere” during the actual labour session.

At that time, my opening was 3cm. Doc said it have to be 10cm before we could proceed for normal birth. We have to wait. So, we waited.

As we waited, time pass. To me every minute pass SUPER slow as the contraction pain increasing like nobody business. Ater few hours around 2am in the morning, my opening was checked again and it shows 4cm opening. Still long way to go. Yes, we have to wait again.

I cant bear the pain anymore, nurse gave me 3 pain killer option. Either gas, spinal injection or epidural. I decided to go for spinal injection. Thank you ALLAH. Pain felt slightly lesser (didnt go away completely) and it is bearable. do bear in mind that my tolerance level for pain is considered high. At this time I have spent around 10 hours in contraction pain since I was given with the injection at 6am.

The opening still shows 4cm, OMG when will you increase??? When the morning came at around 9am my OB came and check my opening and consult me with my option. She told me, that we going to wait few more hours if I still want to try natural birth. They going to start inducing me to increase the contraction hoping that it will help increase the size of the opening.

At first dosage given was 3ml then increased gradually until 48ml. OMG it is the most painful experience ever that I dont know how to explain the pain to others. You have to experience it to understand how it felt. I cant find a right word to describe it  T.T

It is pass lunchtime and I was still in pain and no improvement on the opening. Then around 3pm my water broke. Like a gushhhhhh of water just came out automatically. Banjir like nobody business. I am like a leaking tank at that time.

To cut the story short, by 6pm my opening is still 4cm. Doc said one of the main reason is because my baby is big and she cant enter the “laluan”. So after nearly 23 hours of contraction pain, we had no other option but to go for caesarean.

I was prepared for the Operation theather and my contraction is super intense at the moment. All I could remember was, I was escorted to the  room then doc explain to me the procedure and I  need to sign some concerned doc.

In the labour room, I was injected with and half of my body turn out to be numb. Thank goodnes!! I honestly cant stand the pain of the contraction anymore. My hubby was at my side the whole time. I am really thankful to have him as my husband. I cant believe that he was in the operation room during the procedure to give support.

After awhile, I heard baby scream and I can see my baby right after that. Nurse clean her and put her head close to mine. I am still lying on the operation bed but it was the most magical moment ever. I will remember and cherish it forever. So, that is the summary of my giving birth experience! Smile

The next day our friends and family come and visit Baby Sofea, mummy and daddy! It is a very happy day for us. We glad to share the happiness with our support group Smile Thank you to everyone who came and visit us.Not forgetting those who whatsapp, message, call, inbox to congratulate. We appreciate it so much! Thank you for being so kind to us.

I did my whole pregnancy consultation at Tropicana Medical Center with  Dr. Nurhazinat Yunus. She is Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist, Fertility Specialist at the hospital. She is very kind, patience and I have good experience having my pregnancy journey monitored by her. Would recommend her if you would like to opt for Tropicana Hospital Smile plus the hospital have my medical records starting from my miscarriage incident last year. We decided to opt for Tropicana since it is also the nearest hospital to our home and living in kota damansara (jam 24 hours)  I dont want to give birth in the car T.T if we opt for further hospital that might be one of the option hahaha.. actually I dont mind to go to gov hospital.. okay I do heard of some not so nice experience at gov hospital but to me it depends because I do heard of those who had a nice experience there as well.

Anyway, thank you so much for reading my lengthy post and I hope this helps to provide you with some inside info of a giving birth experience Smile

Till later ya… I will also share what do I eat during my confinement and what products were used during this session in future post. Arigato and have an awesome day ahead!
