Marhaba Restaurant – Food Review
Hello everyone. It’s me Johan. I’m back again for the second time as a guest writer for this blog. This time, I would like to share our experience being a Yemeni royals. (Kind of)
On the 3rd of June 2015, we were invited to have a generous feast at Marhaba Restaurant which is located at Publika, KL. Luckily for us, the place is nearby to us, so we were able to arrive at Publika after work before it was raining that evening. Sofea with her traditional-looking outfit that looks like half a Sabahan, half Yemeni (other people said haa, not me haa).
The place itself is located at Block D1, Level G4, Publika. While walking on Level G4 at Block D of Publika, and if you are not sure if you have arrive at the correct place, there is a hint. This restaurant is right next to a kickboxing gym called “Klinch”, which I think makes a perfect sense. After you having your meal, you can burn back your food intake, right next door. Great right? Haha.
Marhaba Restaurant’s setting is cosy. Common dining area is available which is indoor.
If you are a kind of person who prefers to ensure the longevity of human race by killing (possibly dangerous) mosquitoes while you dine out, or in other words smoking area, terrace garden is for you.
They also have a simple play area to keep your little ones entertained.
Also, for those who like to eat while “bersila”, or would like to experience the true Yemeni dining experience, they have 3 Majlas for you to choose from, which of course depends on availability. Enough about the premise, now the best part, THE FOOD
With plenty of Middle-East-eateries mushrooming our countries lately, it is easy to have an idea or to imagine how the food looks and tastes like. And it is up to the eateries to surprise us with their food taste. Fortunately for us, Marhaba did not disappoint. Taste checked. Portion (the most important part for me), checked.
With that being said, let me show you what we had that day:
Tender steamed chicken with fragrant traditional Yemeni spices. Price: RM30
Hummus blended with tahina paste topped with olive oil. Price: RM16
Rice is well cooked. Chicken is tender. Plus, it is a dynamic duo. The hummus has a roasted taste to it, so when you dip the chicken with hummus, and voila! (Happy face)
Lamb Mandi. Fresh lamb with fragrant traditional Yemeni spices. Price: RM45
Give it a go. The lamb is really tender and juicy. Portion is super generous and of cause simply tasty.
Fatoush. Levantine bread salad served with fresh mixed greens. Price: RM16
Grilled Fish. Seasonal whole fish grilled in tandoor. Price: RM65
Grill Prawns. Grilled Jumbo tiger prawns in tandoor. Price: (market price). So, it is strongly advisable to only order this when the market price of raw fresh prawn plummets. Just Kidding
Grilled Fish. Seasonal whole fish grilled in tandoor. Price: RM65
Mulauwah (Big bread) – Duhh..Roti besar la, apa lagi. Price: RM7 (Medium) / RM12 (Large). Sorry. Kecik takde :p At first when I read the name, I thought it was Walauweh. Silap la plak. Luckily tak main sebut je kuat-kuat dengan penuh konfiden. We also had Saltah Fahsah. With the choice of sizzling lamb/ chicken/ fish cooked in stone pot. Price: RM40 (We had Lamb Saltah Fahsah that time). Another perfect match. The Saltah Fahsah was cooked in a hot stone pot. It was also served on a hot pot. The lamb meat became shredded and blended well with other spices.Imagine this. Tear a small piece of the Mulauwah bread, dip it in the Saltah Fahsah. Hmmm. Walauweh. Sedapnya. *No pun intended
Honey Dates. Bread with dates topped with honey. Price: RM22 As for drinks, we had Fresh Squeeze Orange Juice. Price: RM13 and Marhaba Lemon Mint Mocktail. Price: RM18
Terbaik bos. Wajib try. Tu je nak cakap. We had a great time. Plus, Sofea was on her good mood that time. We had the chance to enjoy the good food, good company and beautifully set up premise. A good day indeed! Anyway, I also found out that they will be having Ramadhan Buffet costing around RM80++ for adult and RM40++ for kids. Definitely worth it ans you get to enjoy a great yummy varieties of Yemeni cuisine at its best.
Thank you for spending time to read this entry. I really appreciate it. Please drop a comment or two and see you guys again on my next post.
